Shibl Mourad

Since joining Google in 2010, Shibl has helped grow the development team and expand the scope of the work executed in Montreal.  As director of research and development Shibl oversees all the software development work and is responsible for maintaining links with the technology community in Montreal and Quebec.


Prior to joining Google, Shibl has founded and managed a number of startups.  He was VP Technology of E-Concept, building interactive TV solutions that bridged the web and TV worlds.  He later founded W4 Technologies, driving product development of a number of award winning web products such as Workanizer,  Webrooms and Webkinik.  Following the acquisition of W4 by Cognicase, Shibl was appointed VP Wireless Solutions for Cognicase where he oversaw the development of banking, retail and consumer solutions in the mobile space.


Shibl later founded Sequence Bioinformatics that developed genome analysis and knowledge management solutions for biotechs.  Sequence helped researchers in the biotech field take advantage of computer science advances to drive their research.  Collaborators included included Genome Quebec, Montreal Cancer Network, Mcgill Proteomics Center, CGI and many other Quebec biotech companies.  Sequence diversified its technology to work on a variety of big data problems including astronomy, chemistry and social network analytics.


Shibl current interests include building an open secure web, innovations in social analytics and interaction models, managing distributed teams and building a vibrant technology and start-up culture in Montreal.
